Lithia Mercedes-Benz

Beaverton, Oregon

After purchasing Rasmussen Motors’ dealerships in Portland, Lithia Motors called on LRS Architects to renovate an existing showroom into a new Mercedes-Benz Dealership on Canyon Road. The building was previously owned and operated by NW Investment Cars and required a major overhaul.

The final design kept only two exterior walls, the floor slab and roof structure, while the remainder of the building was replaced. Key Mercedes-Benz brand elements, like the Autohaus columns, entrance portal and roof edge were incorporated. However, the majority of the renovation was unique to the site and was customized to address the context. Situated on a sloping site that also tapers to one end, LRS met the challenge of making all the elements fit cohesively.

Existing concrete tilt-up panels were replaced with a floor-to-roof curtain wall system that allowed light and views into the two-story showroom space. The interior was completely reorganized to meet Lithia’s design guidelines, which includes transparency between the showroom and service bays, while the sales, service and parts departments were intertwined for ease of movement and related business.

LRS also designed a three-story, 154 stall parking structure on the restricted site to meet vehicle display, inventory and parking demands.
